Two University of Chicago scientists win 2023 Energy Department Early Career Research awards

Two scientists with the University of Chicago, including assistant professor of physics Clay Córdova, have been selected for the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2023 Early Career Research Program. The awardees will receive five-year grants to investigate quantum field theory and electrochemical energy storage.

APS Historic Sites Initiative recognizes the Chicago Pile “Site A” and Stagg Field at University of Chicago

The American Physical Society has designated the Chicago Pile “Site A” and Stagg Field at the University of Chicago as Historic Sites to recognize the world’s first self-sustaining, controlled nuclear chain reaction. Each site will receive a plaque, acknowledging its exemplary contributions to physics.

Meet Mitzi Nakatsuka

The 2023 Alice W. Chandler Staff Service Recognition Ceremony was held June 22. Meet some of the staff members who are celebrating this year the longest tenures at the University.

Mitzi Nakatsuka celebrates year 45 at UChicago. She started at the University as a secretary in the Statistics Department, later moved into Web Services, before eventually returning to the department she started in as a web developer.


Laura Gagliardi awarded the 2023 Pauling Medal Award for Outstanding Achievements in Chemistry

University of Chicago chemist and professor Laura Gagliardi has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Linus Pauling Medal Award for outstanding achievements in Chemistry. Gagliardi is honored for the development of groundbreaking electronic structure theories and combined classical/quantum methodologies that have accelerated the design of new materials, including reticular frameworks.
