Ayaan Quraeshi grew up in Wellington, Florida. He received a BA from the University of South Florida. He is currently pursuing an MS in financial math. We interviewed him about his experience at the University of Chicago.
Why did you choose UChicago?
My program has a very knowledgeable faculty with a great network of industry professionals and Chicago is overall an amazing city.
What noteworthy academic, research, or teaching activities you have pursued while at the UChicago?
I participated in the McGill International Portfolio Challenge in 2017, which was a competition where teams representing various universities were given a hypothetical scenario of a pension fund in trouble and teams were tasked with structuring portfolios to fix it. It was a great opportunity to apply what we learned in class to a realistic situation in the finance world.
What activities do you participate in outside of the classroom?
I enjoy trying new restaurants, attending hip hop concerts, playing guitar, participating in anything this city has to offer.
What are your plans post-UChicago?
I want to begin my career in the finance industry, specifically in investment banking or asset management.
What support have you received at the UChicago?
Our program’s career services support has been excellent in helping us find jobs and network with companies of interest.
If you were speaking to a prospective student, what would you tell them about UChicago?
The school is tough but rewarding. It offers a great balance between work and play and I am very happy I chose this school.
