The Career Services Office in the Physical Sciences Division works with graduate students to reach their career goals through individualized career advising and professional development workshops.

For Students

PSD Career Services will meet you where you are in your career development. Whether you are looking for a summer internship or first destination job after you graduate, or exploring opportunities in industry, we are here to support you in your career journey. PSD Career Services works in partnership with career services professionals within the division and across the University of Chicago to bring our students the highest level of professional development support and recruitment opportunities.

Individualized Career Advising

All PhD students and MS students in Applied Data Science, Computational and Applied Mathematics, and Statistics are invited to make an appointment with Alma Ceballos, Director of Career Services in the PSD via the GRAD Gargoyle scheduling system.

Yes, career advising is available throughout the entire academic year, with reduced hours during the summer quarter.

We encourage you to engage with PSD Career Services early on in your academic career. 

If you’re a PhD student in your first or second year, you may want to learn more about the opportunities available–from academia to industry. If you’re in your third, fourth, or fifth years and are considering employment in industry, discuss your interest with your PI and make an appointment to learn about the application timeline and process. 

MS students interested in pursuing internships and full-time employment in industry are advised to engage with PSD Career Services to prepare for recruitment at the start of their first academic year. Partnering with PSD Career Services will help you stay on track and receive support throughout the recruitment process.

There is no limit to the number of appointments that students can make to reach their career goals.
