Shape and Define Your Field
The University of Chicago has a long history of shaping and defining new fields of discovery, and this tradition of innovation will continue with you. Our students’ inquiry and impact spans from the edge of the observable universe to human-computer interaction, from biophysical materials science to the geologic record of seawater composition, from gravitational waves to generative adversarial networks and beyond.
As a student here, you will have the opportunity to explore new frontiers in the physical and mathematical sciences in cutting-edge research facilities and work alongside world-leading faculty. Upon graduation, you’ll join a network of 180,000 alumni working in over 125 countries, in nearly every field imaginable.
We invite all who are passionate about understanding how nature works and how this knowledge can reshape our future to join our PhD and MS programs or enroll as an undergraduate through the College.
Make Dynamic Connections
As a student at UChicago, you will have the opportunity to expand your impact through global connections. The many UChicago institutes and interdisciplinary research centers provide our graduate students with unique opportunities to explore emerging areas between traditional fields.
Many of our students conduct research at Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory; partner with scientists at Toyota Technological Institute of Chicago, the Adler Planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Field Museum; or work on international collaborations such as the South Pole Telescope, the Chicago-Tohoku Quantum Alliance, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, and the Large Hadron Collider.
Open New Doors
Whether you are looking for a summer internship or exploring career opportunities across industries, the Career Services Office in the Physical Sciences Division is here to support you in your journey. We work with graduate students to reach your career goals through individualized career advising and professional development workshops. By partnering with career services professionals across the University of Chicago, we facilitate connections with employers, alumni in your field, and recruitment opportunities, empowering you to succeed in your chosen path.
