Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Coordination Team (EDICT)
The PSD Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Coordination Team (EDICT) is composed of faculty representatives from across the Division’s departments who work together to uphold diversity and inclusion as core institutional values of the University of Chicago.
-
Our Vision is for the Physical Sciences Division to be a place where all students, postdocs, staff, and faculty, regardless of background, feel valued and able to let their ideas flourish.
-
Our Mission is to foster a climate of support and respect within our community by facilitating communication among our units and advising on diversity and inclusion efforts across the division.
The pursuit of scientific discovery is an inherently collaborative enterprise — one that benefits from a diversity of perspectives, experiences, and approaches to research questions. To achieve the University's core mission of academic excellence, we must not only attract the best people, whatever their background, to join our scientific community but also create an environment in which those people can flourish and thrive. These aims align with the broader goals of the University as outlined by our President and Provost.
Looking to the future, we want to continue to be a welcoming destination for a diverse group of students, postdocs, staff, and faculty from all around the world; we want to ensure an intellectual and professional environment where every member of our division feels a sense of belonging and is supported to do their best possible work; and we want to create an inclusive educational environment where we can effectively share our science, and our enthusiasm for it, with everyone who enters our doors. A firm commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion is fundamental to our success. We have made a lot of progress, but there is always more work to do.
