1:00 pm Zoom

Are you interested in securing media coverage to generate broader interest in your research and scholarship? Becoming a dependable contact and subject matter expert among reporters is a key strategy for success and can help increase your visibility as a scholar and showcase the impact of your work. This Academic Communicators Network session will explore what reporters are looking for when they reach out to academic experts, how the University develops media pitches around the work of our experts, how to respond to time-sensitive and news-driven inquiries, and how to develop long-term relationships with reporters to ensure future opportunities for coverage. It will also explore how to leverage University resources to enhance your media connections.

Damon Jones, Associate Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy, and Ben Zhao, Neubauer Professor of Computer Science, will share their experiences, strategies, and practical guidance on cultivating productive relationships with journalists. They will be joined in conversation with Jeremy Manier, Associate Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs, and Alexia Elejalde Ruiz, Associate Director of Media Relations.
