Physics & Contemporary Architecture Guest Lecture Series Spring ‘21 

The University of Chicago Physics Profs. Sid Nagel and Heinrich Jaeger invite the public to the 8 lectures of the course PHSC11800 Physics & Contemporary Architecture, featuring a top flight of architects and structural engineers discussing contemporary structures and their relationship to physics. All lectures take place on Thursdays at 5:30pm CST and will be presented online as live video conferences. View for more information and to register.

Ethan Silva (Performance Structures)

Ethan A. Silva has over forty years’ experience in the design, construction, and installation of complex structural projects for the entertainment industry, the arts, and in boat building and design. Past projects include major attractions for the Atlanta Olympic City, Disney World Orlando, Universal Studios, Fox Studios Australia Titanic Experience and structural effects for the world tours of Pink Floyd, U2, and the Rolling Stones. Performance Structures, Inc. founded in 1992 by Silva, is probably best known for fabricating Cloud Gate (the “Bean”) at Chicago’s Millennium Park.
