5:00–7:00 pm David Rubenstein Forum, Friedman Hall (3rd floor)
Rogue agents. Unprecedented capabilities. Calls for a slowdown from frontier AI companies. What’s going on?
The UChicago Existential Risk Laboratory (XLab) is hosting “What’s Going On in AI?” this Thursday, October 15th from 5-7pm at the Rubenstein Forum to unpack recent events in AI and their implications for the future. What threats do AI models pose to our institutions, and in what ways do they mirror or differ from past technologies? Do we need to worry about humanity’s survival? What research is being done, and under what technical and policy conditions will we ensure that AI progress goes well?
Stephen Casper, computer scientist and Assistant Professor at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and Daniel Holz, Director of the Existential Risk Lab at UChicago, will share their thoughts in a moderated discussion and Q&A.
The speaker event will be followed by a reception with light snacks and beverages.
