Broader Impacts Fair

All students, faculty, and postdocs are invited to the 2022 Broader Impacts Fair. Over 20 organizations will be represented, showcasing opportunities to engage in education, policy, and public outreach.

The National Science Foundation defines Broader Impacts as activities that contribute to the achievement of societally relevant outcomes such as

  • full participation of women, persons with disabilities, and underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM);
  • improved STEM education and educator development at any level;
  • increased public scientific literacy and public engagement with science and technology
  • improved well-being of individuals in society;
  • development of a diverse, globally competitive STEM workforce;
  • increased partnerships between academia, industry, and others;
  • improved national security.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Workshop

Running concurrently with the Fair, first-year Ph.D. students and fourth-year College students are invited to a workshop to learn how to apply for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP). The workshop is designed for students who plan to apply for the GRFP in Fall 2023. The workshop includes an overview of the award and important first steps you can take now to be ready to prepare the strongest possible application package next year.
