Shirley Proby is October 2019’s PSD Spotlight

Shirley Proby

Shirley has been a member of the PSD for 26 years and is originally from Natchez, MS. She truly enjoys being able to apply problem-solving skills in her role of Associate Dean of Students.

A PSD community member had this to say about Shirley:

We interviewed Shirley about her interests and experiences below.

What do you enjoy about being a part of the PSD community?

I enjoy the sense of independence I feel. I also enjoy being adaptable, flexible, and using my problem-solving skills.

Tell us a bit about you.

I enjoy shopping and cooking.

Who inspires you?

My aunt is a great inspiration for me because she is strong and always supported me.

What is the most interesting thing that you are working on right now?

I am currently remodeling of my basement.

What does diversity and inclusion mean to you?

To me, diversity and inclusion means treating people in a way that they wish to be treated. I believe that everyone should feel visible and included. Individuals should be treated fairly and feel that they belong in their community.

 Who would you most like to swap places with for a day and why?

I would swap places with Angela Olinto. Angela is a well-rounded, strong, and fair Dean of the Physical Sciences Division.

What have you seen lately that made you smile?

My "Thumbs Up" figurine in my office.

Who had the most influence on you growing up?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What three words best describe you?

Cautious, passionate, and fair
