Two UChicago chemists acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in chemistry across various fields
Congratulations to Laura Gagliardi and Mark Levin, who have received American Chemical Society national awards for 2027.
Laura Gagliardi has been selected to receive the Henry H. Storch Award in Energy Chemistry, and Mark Levin has been selected to receive the ACS Award in Pure Chemistry.
The Storch Award recognizes distinguished contributions to fundamental or engineering energy-related research and development and education that address the world’s energy and chemical challenges. The award is supported by an endowed fund established by the ACS Division of Energy and Fuels. Gagliardi is being recognized for her exceptional contributions to theoretical and computational chemistry and their application to critical problems in energy science. Her work has advanced our understanding and computational design of catalysts and energy-relevant materials, including systems for carbon capture and separations, renewable energy, and decarbonization.
The ACS Award in Pure Chemistry recognizes outstanding fundamental research in pure chemistry by an early-career scientist. Levin is being recognized for his pioneering contributions to synthetic organic chemistry, particularly the development of new approaches to skeletal editing that enable the precise modification of molecular frameworks at the level of individual atoms.
Recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, in conjunction with the ACS Spring 2027 meeting in New Orleans.
